The Public Transport Security Committee (PTSC) was formed in 2004 to ensure that security reviews, recommendations and improvements are constantly made to enhance public transport security. The PTSC is chaired by the Chief Executive of LTA and comprises members from government agencies i.e. Ministry of Transport (MOT), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Internal Security Department (ISD), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), National Security Coordination Centre (NSCC), Joint Counter Terrorism Centre (JCTC) and the Public Transport Operators i.e. Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT), SBS Transit (SBST).
The objective of this website is to reach out to the students, particularly the upper primary and lower secondary school students, to raise their awareness on public transport security. This is because it is good to start educating them at this age. It was commuters’ “eyes and ears” that helped the authorities uncover the full extent of JI’s plots against targets in Singapore. Hence, it is hoped that through this website, the students can learn to be more vigilant and be our “eyes and ears” to look out for potential terrorist threats and know how to deal with these threats and emergencies. |
