I’m sure you have heard of the events of 911! Many innocent lives were lost due to terrorists and their ruthless agendas. Hey, it’s no fun being afraid wherever you are and whenever you want to go!
Imagine if you’re on your way to a destination, and then a bomb suddenly goes off on board! That’s exactly what happened on 7th July 2005 on board a bus during the London bombings.
Let’s face it, terrorists are smart people with ruthless agendas. Their plans often target public areas or transport systems where mass casualties can occur. Why? Well, these places are easily accessible, and people have to use public transport systems every day. |
Singapore too must stay vigilant always, which was why the Public Transport Security Committee (PTSC) was formed to ensure that security reviews, recommendations and improvements are constantly made to enhance public transport security. The PTSC is chaired by the Chief Executive of LTA and comprises members from government agencies i.e. Ministry of Transport (MOT), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Internal Security Department (ISD), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), National Security Coordination Centre (NSCC), Joint Counter Terrorism Centre (JCTC) and the Public Transport Operators i.e. Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT), SBS Transit (SBST).
Even with security measures and sophisticated technology in place, we still need your help to keep Singapore secure. Remember, it was commuters’ ‘eyes and ears’ that helped authorities uncover the full extent of JI’s plots against targets in Singapore, so you can actively do
your part! |
